Let’s tour the Clairmont primary suite and office in our latest from the ‘Before and After’ series. From an enclosed carport filled with vinyl flooring and outdated ceiling fan we have created a space that is moody and modern with touches of cozy.
The before: a workspace and utility closet were created by a previous owner by enclosing a carport. Vinyl flooring, an exterior door, and utilitarian shelving made the space feel less homey. We envisioned a space that felt safe, restful, and tucked away from the world.
The result: we painted the walls in Salon Drab by Farrow and Ball to set a calming tone. Textured bedding by Zara Home, Pillows by Rejuvenation and wood Side Tables by CB2 feel cozy and warm. The Bed, also by CB2, is flanked by Sconces from Ferm Living. Built-in wardrobes painted in Pointing by Farrow and Ball add storage, cut through the darkness of the walls and drapery, and conceal the doorway to the primary bathroom.
Left: A soothing Ellie Davies Seascapes Print sourced from 1stDibs presides over the bed. Right: The double shower features plumbing by Brizo. Sconces by Allied Maker flank recessed mirror cabinets from Kohler, and the floors are covered in dark terra cotta tile by Cle. The baths in this home were the first rooms finalized in our design process and reflect an earlier, starker, and more minimalist vision for interior design than we have now, though, glimpses of our appreciation for earthiness and natural materials are still evident.
Now the office, which doubles as a guest room!
The before: a laminate bench and odd built-in storage made the space feel uninviting. We envisioned a moody space for our office that felt like a contemplative retreat.
Now: the room feels meditative, swathed in shiplap paneling painted in Downpipe by Farrow and Ball. The bronze sconces and ceiling light by Allied Maker enhance the mood, and a geometric rug from Annie Selke adds a surprising burst of pattern without disrupting the eye. The leather Chair by Herman Miller is an office staple brought along from our previous home, and the oversized landscape photography offers a visual respite of warm tones, balancing the coolness of the room’s greens and grays.
